Ending my Birth Month with Thanksgiving

As my birth month comes to a close in a little while, I just want to re-post this birthday thank you from my FB wall and say "Thank you, Lord for truly blessing me with good things (even if, at times, they are in the form of challenges)!"

Here's to more reflections and sharings in the coming days.

Blessed Moments - 1

Every day, God gives us, as well as the sun, a moment when it is possible to change anything that is causing us unhappiness. The magic moment is the moment when a "yes" or a "no" can change our whole existence. Every day, we try to pretend that we do not see that moment, that it does not exist, that today is the same as yesterday and that tomorrow will be the same too. However, anyone who pays close attention to his day will discover the magic moment. It might be hidden in the instant that we put the key in the door in the morning, in the moment of silence after supper, in the thousand and one things that appear to us to be the same. This moment exists, a moment in which all the strength of the stars flows through us and allows us to perform miracles.

Paulo Coelho

More than the moments being magic moments as defined by Paulo Coelho in this quotation, I believe that these moments can be described as blessed. Blessed, because they are life - changing in a good way.

Being a Bridge of Learning

“True teachers are those who use themselves as bridges over which they invite their students to cross; then, having facilitated their crossing, joyfully collapse, encouraging them to create their
own.”
Nikos Kazantzakis

I really like this quotation about the my vocation/profession. It gives me enough motivation to go through each class session, each consultation, each conversation hoping and praying that I have been a bridge that my students cross as they go about their learning journey.

First Being, Then Doing

Leadership is first being, then doing. Everything the leader does reflects what he or she is. Warren Bennis

I'd probably tweak this a little bit to focus on Servant Leadership. I believe that a servant leader should focus first on the relationships s/he has with the people s/he leads and/or serves because by getting to know who s/he leads and/or serves better, a servant leader is able to get a clearer picture of what to do to be able to lead and/or serve them more effectively.

The Night Before First Lecture Day (BA 105)

“Devote yourself to loving others, devote yourself to your community around you, and devote yourself to creating something that gives you purpose and meaning.”
― Mitch AlbomTuesdays with Morrie

It's my first lecture day tomorrow for my BA 105 class this semester. I believe this quote from one of my favorite authors sums up my desire to make a difference in the lives of my 56 students, most of whom I'm encountering for the first time (specifically those I haven't interacted with in the course of my being College Secretary).

Where have I been?!

Hey there, welcome to my blog!

I know this blog is way overdue but bucket list-wise, I owe to myself (and you) with the advent of Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest. But hey, you have to admit, I'm still an early adapter (amongst my peers that is).

Anyway, here's looking forward to my musings here! :-D

God bless!
